A subdivision is the division of a tract or parcel of land into two (2) or more tracts or parcels. A subdivision is legally created when a surveyor’s plat showing the division of land is recorded at the County Register of Mesne Conveyance office. Approval of the surveyor’s plat by Aiken County Planning & Development Department is required before it can be recorded.
State and local laws define several types of subdivision. The process required to approve a subdivision varies greatly depending on the type. To learn more about the different types of subdivisions and the approval process for each type, please contact the Planning & Development Department at 803.642.1520
