Applications to amend the text or map of the Aiken County Zoning and Development District Atlas are submitted to the Planning & Development Department. These applications are first considered by the Aiken County Planning Commission, which after holding a public hearing on the application makes a recommendation for approval or disapproval to Aiken County Council. County Council approves or disapproves the request. Since approval of a text or map change is an ordinance change, the entire process can take four months.
Applications are available from the Planning & Development Department. A completed application form and fee must be submitted to Planning & Development at least 30 days prior to a scheduled Planning Commission meeting. The Aiken County Planning Commission meets on the third Thursday of the month at 6:00 PM.
